The salary that a system engineer takes home varies according to the firm or organisation and also the years of experience in the same. However on an average a system engineer can expect a salary between INR 302,630 to INR 872,454 per annum as per the National Salary Data. This may or may not include a bonus up to INR 99,700 per annum along with profit sharing of INR 1007 to INR 60,402.
Career Prospects
The career prospects or job prospects are very bright for a system engineer. The general working conditions for a system engineer are pretty good and they are expected to work for at least 40 hours a week. Also in general a system engineer is expected to deal and coordinate with engineers from various departments. Kitaw Ejigu (1948–2006) was an Ethiopian-American NASA's chief Spacecraft and satellite Systems engineer and research scientist for Rockwell International and Boeing Company, a leading American aircraft and aerospace manufacturer. He collabrated with other scientists to create space shuttle and rockets that assisted in planetary science research and exploration. Among his greatest achievements while in NASA and Boeing are his innovative creations of the Global Positioning System or GPS and a revolutionary and dynamic flight simulator for Boeing Company.
Boris Chertok was a Simon Ramo Medal winner for significant contributions to systems engineering and technical leadership of control systems design for the orbiting space station Mir of Russia.
Eberhardt Rechtin (1926–2006) was an American systems engineer and respected authority in aerospace systems and systems architecture.
A Day in Life
A day in the life of a System Engineer can vary a lot depending for whom they are working and how much experience they have under their belt. The following is the schedule and work of a typical day in the life of a System Engineer who works for an established company.
8:30-9 am: Reach office and check mails from clients and respond to them. Also respond to any calls that might possible come through.
10:30 am: After getting done with the mails, it is time to interact with the team and calm them down.
11:00 am: Work on the project that is of utmost important to the company. This usually includes lots of work with software.
1.30-2.30 pm: Lunch hour.
2.30 pm: Some urgent data processing work comes up that you have to do. Which you can only do when the data entry people are out and no one else is logged on to data acquisition system.
5.30 pm: If you manage to get over with the data processing work, you need to get back to your project and start working on the same.
7-8 pm: Depending on your seniors or for whom you are working, the day usually ends by 7 to 7.30 pm.
