You have to take the science stream at 10+2 level, choosing biology as one of your subjects. A few universities offer genetics as a separate subject at the graduate level, they are Delhi university, Osmania University, Hyderabad, and Gurunanak Dev University etc. To pursue a postgraduate degree in genetics, however, you need to have a base in chemistry and zoology.
The University of Pune offers a postgraduate degree in medical genetics. Punjab Agricultural University, Barkatullah Vishwavidyalaya, University of Delhi, and Osmania University are some of the other universities offering a M.Sc. in genetics.
Mostly to enter to graduate courses the selection is based on best of four aggregate from the Class XII Board exam scores. But many reputed college and institute are introducing entrance. For post graduation very few university /institute/colleges takes students on the basis of marks, otherwise one needs to takes vaious entrance.to take admission in reputed college/institute/university.
For PhD program one needs to take the following exams:
All-India-Level-Competition CSIR UGC NET (the top most and best reputed universities accept candidates through it).
SET (Conducted at state level by state government for admission into best universities of that state).
TIRF (Is a type of JRF plan, under Tata Institute of Fundamental Research).
