Introduction
An agronomist is a person who engages in the scientific study of agronomy, which is the science of using plants and plant materials as fuel, feed, food, and fibre. Agronomists integrate science and practical applications of crop production, soil management, and climatology in the production and utilization of food, feed, and fibre within an environmentally sound system. Agronomists today are involved with many issues including producing food, creating healthier food, managing environmental impact of agriculture, and creating energy from plants. Agronomists often specialize in areas such as crop rotation, irrigation and drainage, plant breeding, plant physiology, soil classification, soil fertility, weed control, insect and pest control.
