Dietitians play an important role in maintaining health or people. Dietitians are experts in food and nutrition. They advise people on what to eat in order to lead a healthy lifestyle or achieve a specific health-related goal. Dietitians work in various different capacities in the field of healthcare, food service, corporate setting, and educational arenas.
Dietitians assess the client’s nutritional need and accordingly develop and implement the nutritional plans. Depending on the specialization they coordinate with nurses, doctors, hospital kitchen and food service staff.
Food service dietitians/nutritionists over see large-scale meal planning and preparation in health care facilities, company cafeterias, prisons and schools. On a typical day a management dietitian will plan and budget cyclic menus. Train and direct other dietitians and food service workers; enforce sanitary and safety regulations and prepare records & reports. Consultant dietitians/nutritionist work under contract with healthcare facilities or in their own private practice. Sports Dietitians help the sportsmen in maintaining proper health as per the requirements of sport that they play. Administrative Dietitians work as a part of the administrative body for health care in organizations such as schools, colleges, Hospitals, universities and even office canteens. They control the nutrient contents of the canteen food to maintain good hygiene of the organization members. Research Dietitians are mostly involved in research work by research and development organization.
