Bachelor of Elementary Education
B EL Ed or Bachelor of elementary Education is a 4 year integrated Professional Teacher Education program. This program is offered by Delhi University and some other universities as well. The colleges under Delhi University that offer this course are Aditi Mahavidyalaya, Gargi College, Institute of Home Economics, Jesus & Mary College , Lady Shri Ram College for Women, Mata Sundri college, Miranda House, Shyam Prasad Mukherji college. In all there are 400 seats in Delhi University. Apart from Delhi University, Amity University Noida (Amity Institute of Education), Anna University Chennai, Rajiv Gandhi Prodyogiki Vishwavidyalay, Indore, Visvesvayaya Technological University Bangalore also offers B El Ed.
Launched in the academic year 1994-95, the programme is an attempt towards fulfilling the need for professionally qualified elementary school teachers. B.El.Ed. is designed to integrate the study of subject knowledge, human development, pedagogical knowledge and communication skills. Both professional and academic options are available to the students who graduate with a B.El.Ed. degree. Given below are some of the professional and academic options available for the B.El.Ed. Graduates:
- Teaching in elementary schools (Classes I to VIII) B.El.Ed. Graduates are eligible for appointment in MCD, NDMC, and Sarvodaya Vidyalayas in Delhi, Kendriya Vidyalayas and Navodaya Vidyalayas all across India and also in private schools
- Leading elementary school systems in various capacities.
- Teaching and research in elementary education in the government and nongovernment sectors.
- Post-graduate and research studies in education and related disciplines.
- Serving as teacher-educators in various State Institutes and University Departments
Admission to B El Ed: The admission to this course is done on the basis of an entrance test conducted by Delhi University every year. The notification is made in the month of May and exam is held in June. After that counseling is done and students get admitted to various colleges.
