Disaster managers are people responsible for mitigation, monitoring and prevention of disasters. These professionals help ensure that the disasters can be prevented and if not prevented the loss to human life and overall loss can be minimized. India is a big country and due to its geological and geographical setup, it is prone to many disasters like earthquakes, floods, droughts, landslides, cyclones and avalanches etc. Also there are many other types of disasters like big accidents on land, air and water and industrial accidents. All these require disaster management.
What do disaster managers do?
Disaster managers are the trained people who are needed to deal with the situation before and after the disaster has occurred. They help in rehabilitation of people and settlement into normal life after the disaster. For better future disaster management these people give valuable suggestions based on their expertise and experience. Ministry of home affairs is responsible for disaster management in whole India while other departments/ ministries like railways, aviation are responsible for their own areas.
