Ques: Dear Dr.Gobs, I've scored 87% marks in Class (XII - Commerce) from Pune, I want to join the Indian Airforce (as my dad is also from the defence services) but I am also interested in becoming Finance professional. I am confused, what do I do? Thank You, Ragini.
- Ragini (9 Jun 2012)
Ans: Dear Ragini, You are not alone in having such confusions. In fact most of us are quite confused about what to do when it comes to picking our courses or careers. The fact is that we should choose our courses or Careers wherein our "Inherent" strengths get utilized and fulfilled. These "Inherent" strengths can be effectively mapped by measuring our inherent APTITUDES and PERSONALITY TRAITS. Our "My Talent" Assessment is a valid and standardized assessment that help you find your inherent "Strengths". We can then see which are the best suited Courses / careers for you. As such both Air-force and Finance are exciting careers but require a different combination of Aptitudes and Personality to excel. Warm Regards / Dr.Gobs.
Ques: Hi, This is J.P. Sawant from Mumbai. Today the IIT JEE results have come and I am disappointed that my son has not qualified in the same. Infact we have taken coaching classes for him ever since he reached class IX. Now after spending so much money, time and effort I am feeling let down. What to do? Now I am having doubts whether my son will even clear the AIEEE? Pls suggest what to do?
- J.P.Sawant (18 May 2012)
Ans: Dear Mr.Sawant, We are all wired differently, some are strong in certain areas and some are strong in some other areas. This is what we behavioral scientist call as APTITUDE. It is the inherent ability or talent to learn or do certain tasks. It would have been good if you had assessed the inherent APTITUDES of your son right in class IX or X levels. It would have given you a sense if there are abilities other than Science and Maths that your son is stronger at. Accordingly, future choices should have been made. Anyways it is not too late, your son can take "My Talent Assessment" and we will help him find the best suited courses / streams for him, where he can excel and enjoy. All the Best and don't be upset ... Your son too will realize where his True Talent's lie. Sincerely / Dr.GOBS
Ques: Hi Dr.Gobs, I am totally confused about what to do after 12th. I am hoping that I'll get admission in DU but if I get low percentage then what are my options. Pls tell me. Thank You.
- Parul (7 May 2012)
Ans: Hi Parul, Thanks for your query. Most of the students would be confused like you. The key thing to know and understand is that what are the "inherent strengths" that one has got. Once you know that then choosing the courses to match your "inherent strengths" should be the next thing to do. To know and understand your inherent strengths" you'll need to get your Aptitude and Personality profile. My Talent Assessment is a psychometric tool which is valid and reliable, and it will give you your Aptitude and Personality profile. All the Best. Dr.Gobs
Ques: Dear Dr.Gobs, I am in class X and I took My Talent Assessment and my report shows that I am High on Spatial, Verbal and Abstract APTITUDES while my PERSONALITY is that of a "Logical One" and "Artistic". I am not too fond of Maths, please let me know which courses / career streams to pick in XI and which careers to pursue in future?
- Anand Dighe, Pune (1 Feb 2012)
Ans: Dear Anand, the fact that you have taken My Talent Assessment and mentioned your Aptitude and Personality Types makes my job much easier and my recommendations more certain. Quite clearly you should be looking at Humanities as a course stream and within humanities, you should take some fine arts and visual art subjects. Other than Architecture, which requires you to study maths and science, you can pursue all the other design courses with aplomb during your graduation. All the best!
Ques: I am student of class XII with science and I want to pursue a career with Indian civil services, can you provide me information about how to go about it?
- Avinash Prasad, Patna (25 January 2012)
Ans: Dear Avinash, Indian civil services is the premium service with the central government of India. Civil Servants are the ones who help the governing politicians make the Policies and then implement those policies which impact lakhs of ordinary Indian citizens. UPSC conducts the civil services examination which one can give after graduation. Lots of deep knowledge of the subject is required to do well in this exam. Also one has to be really diligent in putting in long hours of study to do well. One also needs to have a deep understanding of the current affairs and general knowledge. Once you take My Talent Assessment, we can clearly find out your pattern of "inherent strengths" and accordingly we can give very specific and actionable inputs.
Ques: I am student of Class XI and want to become an Air-hostess. Please tell me if it is necessary to do a training program through a private institute?
- Sandra D'Souza (01 February 2012)
Ans: Dear Sandra, most of the airlines look for certain attributes in a candidate when they select their cabin crew staff. You need the following: Well groomed look with pleasing personality; age below 25 years; graduation in any discipline (even higher secondary will do for a few airlines and a diploma/degree in Hotel Management or Tourism Management is preferred by a few airlines); at least 155 cm height with proportionate weight; normal vision (contact lenses are allowed up to a certain limit); capacity to be on your feet for long hours; a well-modulated voice; a friendly and outgoing personality; patience and an attitude to help people. If you possess these attributes then getting training through a private institute is not required. Prior experience in hotels or in the tourism industry may help and of course, you have to be single. Knowledge of one foreign language other than English and Hindi as well as other regional languages may also help. Once you are selected, you will be trained by the airline itself. Every airline in the world has its own training establish.
